NewPro was engaged by Cockatoo Island Mining to complete study on the requirements to re-establish a ship loading operation at the historic Cockatoo Island mining operation. The scope of this study focusses on the ship loader and marine facilities and excludes aspects such as mining, dewatering, infrastructure, accommodation, crushing and utility supply.
The original ship-loader was designed and installed by Broken Hill Proprietary Company (BHP) in the late 1940’s. It was in service from 1951 until 1984 under the management of BHP, and then from 1993 until 2015 under the management of Portman Mining and then Pluton Resources. The asset has since been taken over by Cockatoo Island Mining Limited.
